Turkey Hunting In Kansas
All of our guided turkey hunts are treated to Jim Smith as their guide on their Kansas turkey hunt. Jim has been hunting the Rio Grande turkeys in South Central Kansas since they were first introduced & legal to hunt in the area. Through the years Jim has learned many unique turkey hunting habits that have helped him become very succesful in the field. Jim loves cooking wild Rio Grande turkeys & grilling them on his Traeger grill so as a turkey hunter with Dirt Road Outfitters, one can rest assure that Jim wants the hunter to get a good Rio Grande Tom turkey as much as the hunter does.
The 2013 spring proved to be a difficult spring to hunt Rio Grande turkey with prolonged cold weather. The Rio Grande turkeys didn't respond to the calls like they normally do in the Kansas spring time. But, once the weather warmed up, the good Tom gobblers were back in full force strutting their stuff. During the prologned cold weather during the 2013 spring we saw many of the mature Rio Grande Tom gobblers run off by masses of Jake Rio Grande turkeys. Thus, proving to be very difficult to hunt for our Kansas turkey hunters. With a skilled guide bestowed at Dirt Road Outfitters we were still able to hunt & call in some very good Rio Grande Tom turkeys for our Kansas turkey hunters in very cold conditions. The first Rio Grande Tom turkey we killed in the spring of 2013 was in 28 degree weather. So while the Kansas weather maybe unstable, with a skilled turkey hunting guide at the helm at Dirt Road Outfitters in South Central Kansas, we still can put some fantastic Rio Grande Tom turkeys on the ground.
