3. Tracks. Studies have show track width rather than track length play a far more important role in determing the whitetail deer's age. As a buck ages hoof tips wear down, and break off. As the whitetail deer ages his hoof will begin to widen.
4. The Behavior. To avoid human interaction a whitetail buck will typically turn more nocturnal as he ages. That is precissely why early season Kansas deer hunts are phenomanal. Whether it be a muzzleloader hunt or an archery hunt often times the whiteatail deer are in there feeding patterns while being bunched up with other bachelor bucks.
