Kansas Turkey Hunting

The 2013 Kansas Turkey hunting season proved to difficult at the start of the season. The temperatures struggled to get out of the mid 30s to begin the year, thus not allowing the Tom turkeys an opportunity to feel like spring was here in Kansas & the mating season had begun. Our turkey hunters saw groups of Jakes in the 10-15 head range. The group of Jakes or young male turkeys proved to be enough of headache to keep the mature Tom turkeys away, thus making Kansas turkey hunting very difficult. Not until the temperatures reached the mid 40s in Kansas did we start to see the good mature Kansas Rio Grande Tom turkeys return to our hunting properties in Kansas. Once the temperatures stayed in the 40s for two to three days our turkey hunters had tremendous success at seeing & harvesting some 9 inch & better Kansas Rio Grande turkeys. So the Kansas turkey hunting turned out pretty good after a bad start to the season. The warm temperatures seemed to not only please the Rio Grande Tom turkeys, but our turkey hunters as well because their success ratios skyrocketed. Even with an advanced turkey hunting guide on our team the cool temperatures proved to be a difficult task for him to help call in & guide our turkey hunters, so, he too, was very pleased to see mid 40 temperatures return during our Kansas turkey hunting season. With small camp sizes & private lodging located in a working farm & cattle ranch near Stafford, Kansas, Dirt Road Outfitters is an ideal place to go for your next Rio Grande hunting trip.
